Her parents owned a florist shop and worked long hours, leaving Yokiko without supervision. She started staying out late, hanging out in the streets with friends and sleeping on the beach. One day her parents realized that their eleven year old daughter was out of control. Her father's response was that physical punishment would put her in her place and teach her to be a proper child. It backfired and she became more out of control until just before her thirteenth birthday, Yokiko ran away from home. Lie on the streets was hard. Harder because Yokiko continued to go to school. She had an incredible drive to learn and excelled. One of the other kids brought her to Jay's attention and he made sure she had a place to stay. Life was not too bad. Until her attitude at school started getting her in trouble. When they were unable to reach Yokiko's parents, CPS was called in and Yokiko was taken into foster care outside the city. That lasted all o a month before she ran away again. This time she was no longer in Jay's area of control and things were bad. Two months later, after she ran off, she's making her way back to Tampa and trying to find Jay.
